Job Brief:

The Library Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the library. They are responsible for assisting with the circulation of library materials, providing excellent customer service to patrons, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the library. The Library Assistant will work closely with other library staff to ensure that the library is a welcoming and inviting space for all patrons.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the circulation of library materials, including checking books in and out, renewing materials, and placing holds.
  • Provide excellent customer service to library patrons, including answering questions, assisting with research, and recommending materials.
  • Assist with library programming and events, including set-up and clean-up, and promoting events to patrons.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the library, including dusting, vacuuming, and organizing shelves.
  • Assist with collection development, including selecting and ordering materials, and weeding outdated or damaged materials.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Library Director or other library staff.

Requirements and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to work well with a diverse group of patrons.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and library software.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.

This is a part-time position, with hours ranging from 20-25 hours per week. The schedule may include some evenings and weekends.

The pay rate for this position is $15 per hour.
